Drug dealer killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected yaba trader was killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Boarder Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Golarchar Point in south side of Shahparirdwip BOP on Tuesday morning.

The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.

Being tipped of that two drug dealers were crossing the Naf River by a wooden boat, a team of BGB took position at the area and challenged them when they were approaching towards Bangladesh, said Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Faisal Hasan, director of BGB-2 in Teknaf.

 

When the BGB team approached to the gang, they opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back that triggered the skirmish. Later, BGB men recovered the body of one drug peddler from the river and another managed to flee.

A total of 52,000 pieces of yaba and a gun were recovered from the boat, he added.

Two BGB men were also injured during the gunfight and are now undergoing treatment at Teknaf Upazila Health Complex.

Teknaf Model Police Officer-in-Charge (OC, Investigation) ABM S Doha said that the body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
